You might be a great fit for Paddle Alberta’s Board.
And no — you don’t need to be an accountant. We already have one.
Our Treasurer role is primarily about oversight, governance, and helping the Board make good financial decisions.
What does the Treasurer actually do?
Paddle Alberta has a professional accountant who prepares our financial reports.
As Treasurer, you’ll:
Review the financial reports prepared by our accountant
Help the Board understand Paddle Alberta’s financial position
Ask questions and flag anything that needs a closer look
Work with the Executive Director and Board on the annual budget
Help make sure good financial controls and policies are in place
Provide financial updates at Board meetings
In short: review the numbers, ask good questions, and help the Board keep Paddle Alberta financially on course.
You’re part of a team
You won’t be doing this on your own.
Our professional accountant
Handles the accounting and prepares Paddle Alberta’s financial reports.
Our Executive Director
Manages the day-to-day financial administration and works directly with the accountant.
Our Board of Directors
Makes financial decisions together.
Our Treasurer
Provides the financial oversight and perspective that helps the Board make those decisions responsibly.

Clubs and paddling organizations
Instructor and leadership development
Safety and rescue programs Paddling opportunities across Alberta
As Treasurer, you get a behind-the-scenes look at how those resources are used and help make sure Paddle Alberta stays strong and sustainable for the future.
This could be a great role if you want to:
Give something back to Alberta’s paddling community
Learn how a provincial non-profit works behind the scenes
Build experience in budgeting, governance, and board leadership
Be part of bigger-picture conversations about Paddle Alberta’s future
Help make sure our resources continue benefiting paddlers across the province
You don’t have to think of yourself as a “finance person.”
You might be a club volunteer, instructor, paddler, business owner, non-profit person, or simply someone who likes helping good organizations work well.
What’s the commitment?
We want this to be a manageable volunteer role.
Most of the Treasurer’s involvement is:
Reviewing financial reports before Board meetings
Participating in Board discussions
Helping review the annual budget
Checking in with the Executive Director when needed
Supporting year-end and AGM financial oversight
Our outgoing Treasurer will also help with the transition, so you won’t be starting from scratch.
Do I need to be an accountant?
No! We already have one.
You do not need to be a CPA, bookkeeper, or financial professional.
This could actually be a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn more about budgeting, financial oversight, and non-profit governance.
Our accountant provides the accounting expertise, and the Executive Director can provide organizational background and context when needed.
You may be a great fit if you:
Are curious and willing to learn
Are comfortable asking questions
Have a reasonable comfort level with numbers
Are organized and dependable
Enjoy working collaboratively
Financial or non-profit experience is helpful, but you don’t need to arrive knowing everything.
